Disks & transfers

Mount extra storage and see exactly how your files are moving.

Connect and mount a disk

USB hot-plug adds the disk to the desktop and Files. An administrator with linked sudo authorization can mount it once or whenever connected. Supported filesystems include ext2/3/4, btrfs, xfs, FAT, exFAT and NTFS. EveryOS does not format, partition or repair disks and offers no actions on the system disk.

Respect permissions and eject safely

Unix permissions still control write access; FAT, exFAT and NTFS use the mounting administrator’s linked UID/GID. Use Forget or Eject deliberately: ejecting also forgets the mount configuration. Busy disks remain mounted. Avoid unplugging a disk during a transfer.

Track and cancel transfers

Progress, speed, remaining time and cancellation appear across Files, the menu bar, dock, Pulse and mobile. Browser uploads end when their tab closes. Server-side transfers allow two per person, stay in memory and end if the API restarts. A visible progress indicator is not a durable background queue.
